Mama Crimson & I decided to take the day and go to a couple of our favorite places just across the boarder into Minnesota. My family has always spent a lot of time in Stillwater, MN (at least as far back as I can remember)! The beautiful historic downtown has always seemed so enchanting to me and reminds me of summer days walking from the marina where we kept our boat over to the candy store to get a treat or heading over to the market where we would get fresh food to grill out while we spent nights on the water. Since we had a free day, mom and I hopped into the car to begin our little journey.
We started our day by driving a little further than Stillwater... our first stop was actually in Marine on St. Croix--- an adorable tiny little town just a ways north of Stillwater. In this town theres a really charming historic area and walk (better in warm weather) but also there is the BEST chocolate shop ever! Stopping in was a must for us! We were thrilled when we walked inside and saw the beautifully decorated chocolates that looked almost too good to eat! We were greeted by the two friendly ladies working at the counter and they reassured us that we could take as much time as we'd like trying to decide on which chocolates we would get (mom and I are so indecisive)! We finally made our finale choice-- Mom got a spicy chocolate called Mamacita, I got a honey whiskey chocolate, and we got a strawberry chocolate egg to share with a glass of malbec. While we were checking out we were also each given a bonus chocolate with hazelnut and earl grey tea... THANK YOU it was so good! With the delicious chocolate, excellent wine choices, and friendly atmosphere this is the perfect spot to stop in for a bit of quiet conversation and a treat, and if you're there after 5pm on a Friday or Saturday be sure to get a wood-fire oven baked pizza! They are just as good as they sound.
Our next stop was back in Stillwater and was actually something that wasn't around until I moved... aww! It was a fantastic vintage shop I spotted on our way up to Marine on St. Croix and naturally we had to check it out. South Hill Vintage is down on Main Street across a condominium building for those of you who are familiar with the area. Walking inside, I was so excited to see rack upon rack of beautiful vintage clothes all with a reasonable price for great quality and the fact that they're the only vintage clothing store (as far as I know) in town! Had I come prepared to do some shopping I could have done some serious damage, to my wallet, there! The shop owner was very sweet and picked out an amazing pair of velvet bellbottoms for me to try on which were so hard to resist. I will be back that's for sure! Mom got a lovely blue & green floral scarf which looks amazing with her blue eyes. Mens and womens clothes, pants and skirts, dressed and tops, shoes and accessories, and lots of gorgeous coats-- they have it all! If you are in the area I strongly urge you to check it out!
To end our day we shared a philly sandwich from the cafe in the health food store and ran our errands. Two of my favorite towns with one of my favorite people... I would say it was a successful day! If you're in the area or looking for a cool get away spot, check it out. It's a beautiful historic area and there is lots to do, especially during the summer!
only ever love,
